I've been teaching guitar professionally since 2004 both privately, through public masterclasses, online and within education establishments.
I love it! Teaching students how to play the guitar is my favorite way to spend my time, fortunately I get to make a living out of it too.
I started teaching privately at Mansfield School of Music in 2004.
From 2005 to 2010 I was a senior guitar instructor for Midlothian council in Scotland.
In 2013 I decided to expand and started East Lothian Guitar Lessons to be able to offer students more options for learning, including Skype and video courses. The success rate has been amazing!

I started playing guitar at the age of nine, taking lessons at school and trying to play along with Beatles songs on one string at home.
At the age of 12 my family to Santa Cruz, California. I heard rock guitar and thought "I want do that!". My mum bought me an Ibanez Roadstar guitar and a Gorilla amp for my 13th birthday and some lessons at Offshore Music with Pat McCormack.
In high school I continued to study privately and also joined the school jazz band and choir. That jazz band won the high school division of the 1989 Santa Cruz Jazz Festival. That 1989 SCJF Command Performance became my first professional recording at the age of 17.
After high school I studied music theory and Bach harmony at Cabrillo College. I was very fortunate to grow up in an environment where I got the opportunity to see and play with a huge variation of musicians.
In 1990 I moved over to Scotland to get back in touch with my roots. So began the next chapter of my musical journey.
I moved to Glasgow where I spent a year studying Electronic Music & Recording at Clydebank College.
Transfering a year later to Jewel & Esk Valley College in Edinburgh to study Modern Musicianship and Film & Television Composition and Technology.
After that I spent a year at Barnsley College studying Popular Music Studies before returning to Edinburgh to continue my professional music career and private studies.
I carried on studying guitar with various Edinburgh guitar teachers including Ged Brockie from the Scottish Guitar Quartet and started playing in local function bands Angel and Corra.
In 2004 I took a guitar teaching position at Mansfield School of Music under the mentorship of Roy McGillivray, this led on to a teaching position as a guitar instructor for Midlothian Council from 2005 to 2010.
In 2013, whilst still working with Roy at Mansfield, I decided to start East Lothian Guitar Lessons to offer more variety and learning options for students.
These days I work on my new project "How To Teach Guitar" and do guitar session work for various projects such as touring with the Sandy Brechin Band, stage productions of Anything Goes, and solo guitar for weddings and functions, whist still passionately running East Lothian Guitar Lessons.
